Puppy & Kitten Care in Spartanburg
The first year shapes everything. We make sure it's built on the right foundation.
Your New Best Friend Deserves a Real Plan
Not a folder of handouts — an actual roadmap
Getting a puppy or kitten is exciting. It's also the single most important window for setting up their long-term health. The vaccines they get (and when), the food you choose, the habits you build in the first 16 weeks — all of it matters more than most people realize.
At Pet's Favorite Vet, we don't hand you a generic puppy packet and send you on your way. We build a care plan around your pet — their breed, their lifestyle, your household, and the BOOPS Method. That means we're thinking about boundaries, nutrition, prevention, treatment readiness, and stimulating activity from day one.
Puppy Care
Building a healthy, confident dog from the ground up
Puppies need a structured vaccination schedule, parasite prevention calibrated to their actual environment, and nutritional guidance that goes way beyond what's on the bag. We provide all of that — plus the stuff most clinics skip:
- Vaccination series — properly timed core vaccines (DHPP, rabies) and lifestyle-based non-core vaccines (Bordetella, Leptospirosis, Lyme, Canine Influenza) based on your puppy's real risk factors
- Parasite prevention — flea, tick, and heartworm prevention started at the right age and tailored to your area
- Nutrition counseling — real food guidance, not a brand recommendation. We talk about what's actually in the bowl and whether it's right for your puppy's breed and growth rate
- Spay/neuter timing — we discuss the latest evidence on optimal timing for your specific breed, including ovary-sparing spay options
- Socialization guidance — the 8–16 week socialization window is critical. We'll help you navigate it safely so your puppy grows up confident, not fearful
- Behavior foundations — potty training, crate training, bite inhibition. We'll point you in the right direction before small habits become big problems
Play Place advantage: Once your puppy is fully vaccinated and cleared, they have access to our supervised doggie daycare and private dog park — right here on the same property. Socialization doesn't stop at 16 weeks, and neither do we.
Kitten Care
Cats aren't small dogs — and we don't treat them like it
Kittens have their own set of needs, and they deserve a vet team that understands feline medicine at a deeper level. Our Fear Free Trained team uses cat-specific handling, pheromone therapy, and low-stress techniques so your kitten's first vet experiences are calm ones. That matters — because a kitten who's terrified at the vet becomes a cat who's impossible to bring in.
- Vaccination series — core vaccines (FVRCP, rabies) and lifestyle-based vaccines (FeLV) timed correctly for your kitten's age and risk profile
- FeLV/FIV testing — baseline testing to know exactly what you're working with from the start
- Parasite screening & prevention — intestinal parasites are extremely common in kittens. We test, treat, and prevent
- Nutrition planning — kitten-specific dietary needs, feeding schedules, and guidance on transitioning to adult food at the right time
- Spay/neuter counseling — timing, preparation, and what to expect for recovery
- Indoor enrichment — this is the "S" in BOOPS. Cats need stimulating activity too. We'll help you set up an environment that keeps your kitten mentally engaged and physically active
- Dental baseline — we start monitoring dental health early so you're ahead of problems, not chasing them
