Recombinant Rabies Vaccines

Recombinant Rabies Vaccines

Pet’s Favorite Vet proudly offers recombinant rabies vaccines for cats. Recombinant vaccines are specially designed to remove the adjuvant, an inflammatory component essential to the efficacy of many vaccines.

By creating a vaccine that works without the adjuvant, the amount of inflammation produced in the location of vaccine administration is reduced.

Why is this important?

There is some suggestive, though not conclusive, evidence that adjuvanted vaccines, namely traditional rabies vaccinations, lead to an increased risk of fibrosarcoma in cats. Fibrosarcoma is a locally aggressive cancer that is difficult to treat outside of radical surgery.

These recombinant vaccines are just as effective as the traditional vaccine and went through a pre-2020 approval at the FDA.

The recombinant rabies vaccine is the default for cats at Pet’s Favorite Vet and can even be combined with the feline viral rhinotracheitis, calici, and panleukopenia vaccine into a single injection.
