Every animal that comes to Pet’s Favorite Vet receives customized vaccine recommendations. This is because cat and dog vaccinations are never one-size-fits-all, and while some vaccines are essential, others are best given based on individual lifestyles. We want to make sure your pet is safe, healthy, and protected according to their needs.

As a service to the Boiling Springs and Spartanburg, SC communities, we offer the rabies vaccine (which is required by law in South Carolina) without an exam to all pets. Rabies is extremely dangerous to dogs, cats, humans, and other mammals, which is why vaccination for this virus is so important. We are happy to offer the three-year rabies vaccine to those pets that qualify as well as the recombinant rabies vaccine for cats.

Lifestyle-based Vaccines for Dogs and Cats

Certain situations require additional vaccines to keep our patients safe. Moving to a new environment or frequenting areas that are high risk for certain diseases can leave your dog or cat vulnerable to illness.

Vaccines for Social and Active Dogs

Dogs that go to daycare, dog parks, shows, field trials, the groomer, and boarding facilities get to have a blast socializing with the other dogs! However, Bordetella and Canine Influenza can spread quickly via respiratory droplets in these environments. At Pet’s Favorite Vet, we carry the vaccines for both, including an oral Bordetella vaccine.

For dogs that like to play outside in South Carolina’s beautiful forests, mountains, and beaches, there is a risk of tick exposure. Lyme disease can cause lifelong health problems, even without serious symptoms in the acute phase. The annual Lyme vaccine works in conjunction with tick prevention to keep your dog healthy and safe.

Vaccines for Outdoor Cats

The feline leukemia virus (FeLV) is spread by cats when they exchange bodily fluids via a bite, mating, mutual grooming, or through the placenta. This virus is incredibly prevalent in outdoor cats of Spartanburg County and the Upstate in general. Even for cats that do not leave their yard, stray and free-roaming cats can still visit and spread the virus. Pet’s Favorite Vet recommends that all outdoor cats be tested and vaccinated annually.

We Offer Vaccine Titers, Too

Vaccine titers are not common, but there are some cases where we can perform distemper, parvo, and panleukopenia titers instead of vaccination. Titers allow us to gauge the amount of antibodies your pet has to fight certain diseases, but they do not offer any protection the way vaccines do. Also, we do not do titers in place of rabies vaccinations.
