How We Use Fear Free to Help Your Pet
Being Fear Free Certified means our team is trained to provide low-stress care that helps anxious dogs and cats feel calmer and more secure. Here’s how we do it:
- We can provide pre-visit sedation or supplements to take the edge off your pet’s anxiety and make their visit more relaxing (let us know in advance of your appointment if your pet needs this!).
- If you prefer, we can have you wait in the car with your pet (instead of the lobby) so they don’t have to be around other animals.
- We also use artificial cat and dog pheromone infusers in our exam rooms, which work as calming chemical signals to anxious pets.
- Our team members speak in low, calm voices and always refrain from using force to examine, test, or treat your pet.
- We use gentle control techniques, innovative tools, and medication when necessary to ensure your pet’s emotional health isn’t sacrificed for the sake of medical care.
- Don’t forget treats! Treats are a pleasant distraction for dogs and cats. Our goal is to help your pet associate our hospital with good things (make sure your pet is a little hungry when they visit).
- Being examined on a high exam table can make some pets anxious. If your pet prefers, we can examine them on the floor, in their carrier, or even on your lap - wherever they are most comfortable.
